I make an ongoing effort to limit the number of items. The challenge is to select and prioritize which books are most essential to gaining the most effective understanding. It is such a selection, rather than a large bibliography, that I strive to provide. In this same spirit, items within each topic are in an approximate suggested reading order, from more general to more specialized or from more basic to more advanced. Many of the listed books also have their own exhaustive bibliographies.
Ideas drive history, and it is to the realm of ideas that we now turn.
