This site primarily promotes the reading of books. Much of what needs to be more widely discovered requires systematic understanding. Without reading certain books, we will not be able to obtain such understanding and will be left hopelessly enmeshed in the standard-issue fallacies of our age.
After reading such books, however, we will be able to apply our own new understandings and analytical tools to many concrete instances: past, present, and future. The names and numbers in the latest news stories come and go, but the underlying principles remain the same. Once we gain the tools, we will always have them, and can better recognize when we need to seek additional specific tools or insights for particular issues.
The topics and the various authors recommended here provide a multidisciplinary range of perspectives from which to view problems of social organization. Gaining new perspectives from the vantage point of each topic area can gradually give rise to an emerging holism of insight, as knowledge gained in looking at one topic suddenly helps make better sense of other topics. Be patient, and then pick out the next book! New systems of insight will begin to fit together and make more and more sense over time in light of other insights already gained.
